I had really a discussion with one of my students this week. We’re talking about is something essential guitarist needs to get good. Think about it for a minute. Is it a good teacher? It’s effective practice habits? What do you think we came up with?
Well, after about 10 minutes of discussion we came to the conclusion desire is the most important thing. In other words, you need to feel a deep need to get good on guitar. Without this desire you can just won’t do what it takes to get good. After all, can you go to a great mentor and learn the most effective strategies practice, but if you don’t have the motivation to work hard and you won’t be getting good anytime soon.
There is a question that I ask the illusionist all my potential student guitar
One of the questions I ask my students this potential …
“On average, how many times each day may be able to devote practice guitar?”.
And now, I have to admit this question a little sneaky. They give the answer not actual important or disclosure. (And obviously someone 14 hours a day will probably type a number less than someone who is just a 10-hour day. what search is coherence between what type and what they do once lessons. in other words, they are walking the talk!
This consistency between what we say and what gives me many insights into just how powerful desire. For example: prospective students say they can do 2 hours a day to practice guitar on average. And once lessons, be lucky if you can get do 30 minutes a day! It will usually come with a bunch of lame excuses why each week to do 2 hours a day and they said they would do. They say things like “was busy week” or “I didn’t have time.” Cold hard fact that they don’t just want it bad enough.
If prospective students say they will do at least two hours per day, and time your start it’s actually what they say, then it is clear to me that they have a genuine desire to improve. And because they have the desire, then it’s only a matter of time before you get good on guitar.
One major reason why you want a task to
If you’re big, then you can also probably all responsibilities that go with adults. For example, you may have to pay rent or mortgage payments. You may also need to pay for food and utilities for yourself and your family (if you have one). For many people, to earn enough money with these responsibilities it takes much time available.
Let’s take a look for example. Let’s say that fake budding guitarist who will call Joe wants to really improve him play. At this moment hours typical for him this is similar to …
It works 12 hours a day. (This includes the time spent) appointed sleep 7 hours a day.
Between work and sleep about 19 hours per day is taken up. This leaves 5 hours per day for all other activities. If Joe family then do two or more hours of practice guitar work day may have to do one or more of the following …
Reduce recreational activities to near zero. He’ll need to exercise his own guitar instead of watching TV, reading novels fiddling, browse the Internet and other low-value activities.Abandon all or most of his other hobbies. Spend hours a day making model airplanes or cancel your booking may be fun and relaxation for Joe … But it wasn’t going to improve his guitar playing.Get up earlier or going to bed later. This could mean reduced he slept for an hour. (This may not be an option depending on how it responds to a bit less sleep. personally I don’t need more than six hours sleep was updated but I know many people need more sleep than that).
Obviously, most people need to do the above represents the great sacrifice that it would not be willing to make. And the only way that someone would make that kind of sacrifice if they really, really, really want to get good on guitar.
And let’s face it. Many people like the idea of moving quickly on guitar, but have no real desire caused by providing the necessary sacrifices. (They say they want to get good … But while it’s not ready to stop watching your favorite TV shows.)
Discipline alone is not sustainable
Might be thinking that maybe the answer is to discipline yourself to do the practice. While it is true that could perhaps discipline yourself to do a small amount of exercise each day, I don’t think working discipline alone for larger quantities. Your practice needs to feel like work love instead of something you can force yourself to do.
Keep in mind also something do three hours exercising every day a totally different play only for an hour each day. (Sacrifices that need an greater). Personally I don’t think it is possible to preserve large amounts of long-term daily practice unless you have the desire to obtain good burning. You may be able to continue to do three hours of exercise every day for a month or two. But do you really think you can keep it for 10 years or more just by discipline alone? If you could, then you better person than me!
Even if you have been allowed a little with your practice guitar lately you might need to ask yourself … How strong “my wish? Do you really want to improve my playing guitar? “. If you feel your desire is not really strong now, might be the next logical question … “What can I do every day to increase desire?”.
